'Astana Ballet, the Republic of Kazakhstan’s leading ballet company, presents four one-act ballets in its London debut from September 12 to 14 at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre. The mixed bill combines modern choreography with a flavour of traditional Kazakh folk art and includes performances of The Heritage of the Great Steppe , Love Fear Loss , A Fuego Lento and Salome . The Heritage of the Great Steppe is the company’s signature piece featuring a cast of female dancers in traditional costume and classic Kazakh folk dance choreography; Love Fear Loss is inspired by the life and music of the French singer Edith Piaf; A Fuego Lento (Burning Desire) explores the first feelings of anxiety and emotion when you fall in love; finally, Salome is based on Oscar Wilde’s play of the same name, which inspired Astana’s interpretation using a variety of techniques including pointe and barefoot. When Astana Ballet made its debut in Kazakhstan in 2013, it marked a significant step in the country’s cultural landscape.Since then the company has performed in New York, Paris, Milan, Monaco and will perform in San Francisco later this year.In London, one lucky pair can experience Astana Ballet on the evening of September 12 for free!To enter our competition, simply send your name and postal address to competitions@dancing-times.co.uk by August 30, 2019.Image: Astana Ballet in The Heritage of the Great Steppe . Call for artists!

Dance Dancing Times

A special call for projects to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the British Council’s presence in Canada has now been opened.
'A special call for projects to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the British Council’s presence in Canada has now been opened. In celebration of this anniversary and the special relationship between Quebec and the UK, the Quebec Government and the British Council are pleased to invite artists, directors, authors, and other cultural workers to submit an application for financial support to carry out a research trip between Quebec and the UK in 2019 and 2020.This trip would aim to support and encourage new cultural dialogues leading to better mutual understanding between the two societies. In order to be considered, a proposed trip must start at the earliest on January 1, 2020 and end by December 31, 2020, and target at least one British and one Quebec partner. The deadline for applications is September 20, 2019.It should be noted that because of the special nature of this call for proposals, project proposals submitted by British organisations do not need to have a Quebec partner submit a joint proposal to the Quebec government.Quebec-based organisations are also welcomed to apply by following the link to the Ministère des relations internationales du Québec’s website . Please note that this special 60th anniversary celebration fund does not replace the regular biannual QC/UK Connections call for projects. The next edition of which will be launched in the spring of 2020.For more information, full list of criteria and to complete the application form, please go to the British Council website . Winning the World Cup Comes With Perks Like This Onstage Dance From Jennifer Lopez

Dance TIME

Let's all get on the floor for this collaboration
'Everyone is busy celebrating the U.S. women’s national soccer team ‘s World Cup win . But Carli Lloyd ‘s on-stage celebratory dance from Jennifer Lopez truly may have taken the cake. The two-time Olympic gold medalist had a night to remember at the It’s My Party tour’s concert in New York on Friday night. “I don’t know if you’re ready for this. I got a little present for you,” J. Lo said in footage shared on Twitter, calling the World Cup winner onto the Madison Square Garden stage. Both stars wore white during the memorable moment, because of course, this moment was basically as important as a wedding. “I don’t know if you’re ready for this. Lo giving her a lap dance on a high-heel-shaped chair, no less. The feat of choreography included backup dancers as Jeremih’s “Birthday Sex” song played. It’s no live croon of “Jenny From the Block,” but it will do. A first for everything 🤣 https://t.co/WtnFVdi0i7 — Carli Lloyd (@CarliLloyd) July 13, 2019 View this post on Instagram When @jlo brought @carlilloyd up for a lapdance Lol #Epic #jlo #jennyfromtheblock #jloitsmypartytour #carlilloyd #jenniferlopez A post shared by 🕉 Free Spirit ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 (@itsrenee201) on Jul 13, 2019 at 8:01am PDT Lopez herself is big fan of the USWNT. Now, with four titles, the team holds the record for the most FIFA Women’s World Cup wins in history. “So proud of the World Champs,” J. Dance Channel 4 News

Nile Rogers is the disco legend who changed the course of modern music.
'Nile Rogers is the disco legend who changed the course of modern music. The Chic track “Good Times” that he co-wrote has alone been sampled more than 200 times and sparked the advent of hip hop. He grew up in New York but is spending lots of time in Britain curating the Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre next month. He’s chosen the artists and is performing himself across nine days of performances. We went to meet him at Abbey Road Studios where he’s become the first ever chief creative adviser.'

'LOVE Island fans have been left fearing for Amy Hart after Curtis Pritchard teaches Maura Higgins to dance – after refusing to show her. In a preview for Sunday’s night show, the stunning grid girl is seen confronting the ballroom dancer and asking him to show her some moves, which he happily proceeds to do. Amy watches on in horror as Curtis dances with Maura The moment doesn’t go unnoticed by an emotional Amy , who can be heard muttering under her breath: “What a p***k” In tonight’s episode Amy had pointed out to Curtis that he had never wanted to dance with her as he brutally dumped her only for Maura to make her move moments later. Viewers are concerned this latest blow will be too much for Amy, who has been left devastated by their break up. One person tweeted: “Curtis and Maura are just so horrible to dance in front of Amy when that’s what she kept asking him to do with her…here hoping @CraigDavid asked Amy for a dance #LoveIsland.” Amy leaving #loveisland for a shrink makes complete sense now. The air stewardess, 26,  wept and said she had “no future” after a row with boyfriend  Curtis Pritchard  — leaving viewers concerned for her mental health. Amy  admitted on Wednesday’s episode that she loved 23-year-old Curtis — brother of  Strictly dancer AJ . But she was left shattered when he told her that he was attracted to rival contestant  Jourdan Riane , 24. Maura – who encouraged Amy to end things with Curtis – has since announced he is the “full package” and has started making a move on him. \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t'
