Xander Schauffele’s Driver Fails R&A’s Test At The Open

'There was drama on Tuesday as one of the favourites had a piece of equipment banned from use Xander Schauffele’s Driver Fails R&A’s Test At The Open One of the favourites for The Open at Royal Portrush has had an equipment issue this week.Xander Schauffele contended strongly at The Open last year at Carnoustie, but came a cropper of the new R&A driver tests at Royal Portrush. The R&A began randomly testing drivers at the 2018 Open, but none of the drivers tested failed last year. The tests they do are to check the Coefficient of Restitution – the trampoline-like effect the face of the driver puts onto the ball.In particular, the R&A are looking to gain an understanding as to whether this trampoline-like effect can change over time – hence the testing of in-play drivers that are already on the R&A’s conforming list. This brings us back to Schauffele and the American’s Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero driver was tested on Tuesday and failed. “It barely missed. So I had a bit of a run-in with the R&A, which wasn’t the most fun.So happy that it worked a little better today” said Schauffele after his second round 65 on Friday. After his driver failed the R&A’s test on Tuesday, Schauffele went to work with the Callaway fitting team to find a replacement. “I was doing driver testing up until Wednesday. And then yesterday [Thursday – ed] it wasn’t really matching my bag, which was a bummer.I was getting a little upset on the golf course. And today I was testing a little bit on the range again with two different heads. But moved a few weights around and sort of found a good setting.” At this point it is worth adding that neither Schauffele or Callaway are being accused of any wrong-doing.His 74 in the opening round put him in danger of missing the cut but he responded well in round two to manouevre into contention. “We offer the testing as a service to players so that they can ensure that their drivers conform,” the R&A said in a statement. “We believe that 30 is a reasonable sample and a practical option for conducting this process in the week of a major championship.” \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t Expand \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t Robert MacIntyre Rages At Kyle Stanley After Caddie’s Mum Hit \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Robert MacIntyre Rages At Kyle Stanley After Caddie’s Mum Hit \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t Stanley hit a marshall on the 14th and… \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t Expand \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t Tearful McIlroy Reacts To Portrush Open Despair \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Tearful McIlroy Reacts To Portrush Open Despair \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t An emotional Rory McIlroy held back the tears… \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t Expand \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t WATCH: Incredible Action From The 1951 Open At Royal Portrush \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t WATCH: Incredible Action From The 1951 Open At Royal Portrush \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t Watch incredible action of the Royal Portrush course… \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t “I have a legal driver now and I am happy to see the ball performing like it did today or the driver performing like it did today, so that was very comforting.Like I said it will get better every day. We’ve still got two more.” We will wait and see if there is anymore fallout from the testing over the days, but Schauffele will certainly be hoping to put this behind him and to play well over the final two rounds at Portrush.Follow all the latest form the Open at Royal Portrush at the Golf Monthly social media channels. This article Xander Schauffele’s Driver Fails R&A’s Test At The Open appeared first on Golf Monthly .'

'OPEN contender Xander Schauffele had a heated run-in with rules official after they found he was using an illegal driver. American Schauffele, 25, thought he had been unfairly treated and moaned that “130 other players” could be using a club banned by the rules as well. Open contender Xander Schauffele had a heated run-in with rules officials after he was found to be using an illegal club Reuters The R&A began randomly testing players’ clubs at last year’s Open and Tiger Woods – who missed the cut at Royal Portrush – had his measured too. Woods’ club was deemed fine but Schauffele, who was runner-up in The Masters and third in the US Open, was left scrambling for a new one after his was found to breach the rules on Tuesday. Fuming Schauffele said: “I had a little bit of a run-in with them because they only test 30 players. I thought it was a little bit unfair. “I would gladly give up my driver if it’s not conforming. But there’s still 130 other players in the field that potentially have a nonconforming driver, as well. “I had a word with them and hopefully they take my comments seriously. I had a bit of a run-in with the R&A, which wasn’t the most fun.” Schauffele struggled in a first-round three-over 74 in which he hit just six of 14 fairways. \t \t\t \t\t \t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Latest Open news \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tLOVE STOREY\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tWho is Lee Westwood's girlfriend Helen Storey & has she caddied for him before?\t\t\t \t\t\t \t \t \t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tit's wide OPEn\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tDay three latest as early starters chase down leaders Holmes and Lowry\t\t\t \t\t\t \t \t \t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t'HARSH WORDS'\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tOpen ace MacIntyre's angry bust-up with playing partner who hit caddie's mum\t\t\t \t\t\t \t \t \t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t'IT'S UNFAIR'\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tOpen ace Xander Schauffele has heated run-in with officials over illegal club\t\t\t \t\t\t \t \t \t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tLOVE STOREY\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tHow Westy's girlfriend who's scared of divots with worms helping Open charge\t\t\t \t\t\t \t \t \t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tOPEN FOR GLORY\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tThe Open 2019 start time, TV schedule, odds and tee times for Royal Portrush\t\t\t \t\t\t \t \t \t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t \t \t \t \t But he surged back with a 65 yesterday to sit on three under, five behind leaders Shane Lowry and JB Holmes, after finding a driver that matched up. Around 7000 people take part in Pride march through Glasgow

LGBTQ STV News

The Mardi Gla Pride march marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
'Around 7000 people have descended on Glasgow city centre in celebration of LGBT rights. The Mardi Gla Pride march, the first of two processions in support of the LGBT community in Glasgow this year, marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Thousands started the event at Kelvingrove Park before moving on to Sauchiehall Street, Blythswood Street, West George Street and George Square. STV showed its support to the LGBT community with weatherman Sean Batty joining the march. A distinctive rainbow flag, adopted by the Pride movement, flew high above Glasgow City Council chambers as part of the event organised by the LGBT Co-op. The flag has just returned from New York after being carried at the front of the British embassy delegation during World Pride in New York. The organisers estimated around 7000 people were involved in the day of events. A statement said: \'Glasgow is the kind of city where if someone needs some help we tend to rally round and help out - thats just the way we are as Glaswegians. We are a proud city and working together we will show that we are also a proud community. https://twitter.com/AmnestyScotland/status/1152558260605661184 | twitter \'As a new grass roots group in our first year, we want this Pride Event to be the foundation to build upon in the years to come as we all work as a community to ensure that our voices are heard loudly and clearly across our city and region.\' Sean added: \'It was a great parade with an amazing atmosphere. So many happy, smiling people, plus it was a lovely sunny day for it.\' The march comes a year after a separate event, run by different organisers, was hit by serious problems when people with tickets were denied entry to a post-march festival. Those behind that event have now organised a Pride march on August 17. https://twitter.com/SeanBattySTV/status/1152561042024730624 | twitter'
